Scholarship Program
In 2003, the Foundation initiated a scholarship program in which annual fundraising proceeds are used to award $1,000
scholarships to graduating seniors from St. Charles East and St. Charles North High Schools. Scholarship application
forms are posted in the early spring and recipients are announced during the annual awards banquet at each high
school.
Applicants
must have a grade point average of at least 3.0, show evidence of active involvement in school and community clubs, organizations,
community service, and co-curricular activities. The students must also submit an essay of 300 words discussing which
high school experiences helped them prepare for college.
Two letters
of recommendation must be submitted, including one from a community member and one from a District 303 faculty member.
Teachers,
administrators and local citizens help review applications and select winners through a blind screening process to ensure
complete objectivity. The essays are judged based on their sincerity, organization, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
2008 Scholarship Awards
The Education Foundation presented a $1,000
scholarship to two graduating seniors from each high school at their honors night in mid-May. Ellen Bartindale
and Tyler Dettro from East along with Sarah McDonald and Laura Wolf from North were each awarded $1,000 scholarships.
The Foundation congratulates the 2007-2008 scholarship
recipients and extends a special thanks to the residents and businesses in the community that supported our various fundraising
activities during the past year which made these scholarships possible.
