Scholarship Program
In 2003, the Foundation initiated a scholarship program in which annual fundraising proceeds are used to award $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from St. Charles East and St. Charles North High Schools. Scholarship application forms are posted in the early spring and recipients are announced during the annual awards banquet at each high school. Applicants must have a grade point average of a least 3.0, show evidence of active involvement in school and community clubs, organizations, community service, and co-curricular activities. The students must also submit an essay of 300 words discussing which high school experiences helped them prepare for college. A letter of recommendation from a non-relative adult is also required. Teachers, administrators and local citizens help review applications and select winners through a blind screening process to ensure complete objectivity. The essays are judged based on their sincerity, organization, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
2010 Scholarship Awards
The Education Foundation presented scholarships to two graduating seniors from each high school at their honors night in mid-May. Colleen Kanies and Kala Sigona from East along with Amanda Gardier and Christopher Potocki from North were each awarded $1,000 scholarships.
The Foundation has renamed one of the East High School scholarships in honor of Bob & Kim Walters, who are parents from East that have donated their time and energy to the Foundation for the past 10 years. Colleen Kaines was the recipient this year.
The Foundation congratulates the 2009-2010 scholarship recipients and extends a special thanks to the residents and businesses in the community that supported our various fundraising activities during the past year which made these scholarships possible
